Welcome to the UCT Prague community! This guide provides all the essential information for officially accepted exchange students to navigate their studies successfully.
In the Czech Republic, we follow a two-semester system aligned with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
- Winter Semester: September – February (classes, practicals, and assignments).
- Summer Semester: February – June (classes and academic activities).
- Exam Periods: Several weeks at the end of each semester dedicated to final tests and projects.
- Classes: Usually held between 8:00 and 19:50.
Managing your studies happens primarily online through these key platforms:
- Study Information System (SIS): Your central hub at student.vscht.cz for schedules, exam registration, and grades.
- EMIL App: The university app for quick access to your study data (available on Android and iOS).
- E-Learning: Access study materials, recorded lectures, and assignments at e-learning.vscht.cz.
Official communication between the university and students occurs only via your university email (login@vscht.cz).
- Network Access: Your account allows you to use UCT Wi-Fi ("vscht"), computer labs, and network drives.
- Password Policy: You will receive your credentials during Enrollment. Keep your password secure and read the guide on how to change it if forgotten.
At UCT Prague, we maintain high academic standards. Plagiarism, cheating, and any form of academic misconduct are strictly prohibited.
- Zero Tolerance: Cheating during exams can lead to severe disciplinary action.
- Responsibility: Integrity is essential for an authentic education. Please review the Code of Discipline to understand your rights and duties.
Exams can be written, oral, or a combination of both. You are responsible for managing your own exam schedule within the SIS.
- Registration: Professors post dates in SIS under "Examination Terms". You must register for each date individually.
- Attempts: You have 3 attempts for each exam. If you miss a registered date without a valid excuse, you lose the attempt and receive an "F".
- Re-sits: Resit attempts must be completed within the regular examination period.
- Cr+ZK (Course-credit + Exam): The most challenging. You must pass mid-term tasks (Cr) before you are allowed to take the final exam (ZK).
- ZK (Exam): A standard final examination.
- KZ (Marked course credit): No final exam; your grade is based on your performance during the semester.
- Cr (Course-credit): Evaluated based on simple requirements, such as attendance. No grade is given.
UCT Prague uses the ECTS system to ensure your credits are easily transferable. One semester is approximately 30 ECTS; exchange students are required to complete at least 20 ECTS.
- A (Excellent): 100 – 90%
- B (Very Good): 89 – 80%
- C (Good): 79 – 70%
- D (Satisfactory): 69 – 60%
- E (Sufficient): 59 – 50%
- F (Fail): Less than 50%
- Don’t waste time: 5 exams in 5 weeks is a tight schedule. Start early!
- Strategy: Don’t postpone the hardest exams until the end. If you fail the first attempt, stay calm—it happens to many. Learn from it and use your next attempt.
- Support: If you're lost, ask! Contact your professor, the IRO, or reach out to ESN (Erasmus Student Network). ESN volunteers are here to help you adjust to campus life and organize events to meet other students.
