Registering with the Foreign Police is a mandatory legal obligation for all international students staying in the Czech Republic for more than 30 days. Failure to comply can lead to fines up to 3,000 CZK.

This also applies if you are waiting to pick up your long-term residence permit.

Registration is not necessary. The residence halls will register you automatically. However, you must still report any changes in your documents or status yourself.
You must register in person at the Foreign Police. Ask your landlord first—if they provide accommodation for financial compensation or to more than 5 foreigners, they are legally required to register you.
Registration must be completed in person. We recommend arriving early to avoid long lines.

Tip: At the station, get a number and fill out the registration form (available in English). Consider asking your "Buddy" or a Czech friend to accompany you.
The police are allowed to stop you at any time to check your identity and registration, especially near government buildings, transport terminals, or popular nightlife areas.
- Always carry your Passport or ID. You can be fined up to 2,000 CZK for not having it on you.
- If caught without documents, police will escort you to the station or to your home to verify them.
- The Foreign Police also handles visa extensions (short-term) and certificates for marriage.
