Non-EU exchange trainees planning to stay in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days must apply for a long-term visa for study purposes at the Czech Embassy or Consulate in their country.
A third-country national is a citizen of any state that is NOT a member of the EU, nor a citizen of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland.
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
Note: Citizens of the United Kingdom are also considered visa students.
If you hold a residency card for study purposes in another EU country, you may apply for an appointment in the Czech Republic or at the regional visa centre in Dresden.
Important: Always consult with the Department of International Relations before starting your application.
Applicants must schedule their visa appointment themselves. UCT Prague has no authority to process visa applications or approve appointments with the Czech Embassy in other countries.
- Apply for an appointment as soon as you receive your Acceptance Letter or signed Learning Agreement.
- Be prepared that for many students, it can take several weeks just for the appointment to be scheduled!
To apply for a long-term visa (study purposes), you must obtain three original physical documents from UCT Prague. You may request these once your application procedure is officially confirmed.

Required only when picking up the visa (not during application). You must provide the policy, general conditions, and proof of payment, including an officially verified translation into Czech.
⚠️ Important: Requirements vary by country. Your primary source of information is the embassy's website or the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic.
All documents from UCT Prague must be submitted in paper form. Once you receive confirmation that your documents are ready, choose your delivery method:
Takes approx. 3–4 weeks (or more depending on the country). Registered by UCT Prague.
Takes less than 1 week. Highly recommended for safety and speed. You must create the order on the DHL website yourself.
⚠️ If visa requests are not approved on time due to delivery delays, UCT Prague reserves the right to cancel the traineeship.
Consulates schedule appointments via email or phone. Applications must be lodged in person, where an interview is held and fingerprints are collected.
- Originals required: Passport and purpose of stay (Acceptance Letter). These will be returned to you.
- Translations: All documents must be in Czech or officially translated.
- Age of Docs: Must not be older than 180 days (except passport/current photo).
- Copies: Prepare a complete set of copies of all requirements.
- Processing Time: Legal limit is 60 days. If you have no news after 60 days, you may contact us.
- Incomplete Apps: Will be suspended, prolonging the entire process.
UCT Prague has no authority over embassies. Status updates are strictly confidential. Embassies are extremely busy during summer; you will be contacted directly once the visa is ready.
Note: We provide no invitation letters or assistance for friends, partners, or family. They must follow standard procedures via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Department of International Relations can accompany you during your visa application and will gladly provide guidance regarding Foreign Police registration or visa extensions once you arrive in Prague.
Third-country nationals must register their address within 3 working days of entry, unless done by your accommodation provider (e.g., UCT Dormitories).
- Present a valid travel document and a completed registration form (available at the office).
- Be prepared to present your travel insurance certificate upon request.
To extend your traineeship, you must apply for an extension of your long-term visa at the MOI (Department for Asylum and Migration Policy). UCT Prague will issue your prolongation confirmation, and the Halls of Residence will provide proof of accommodation.
